What I've learnt from teaching these programmes is that self-love is very important because that led me to believe in myself and knowing I am worthy and I deserve better. At first I had a low self-esteem but now I have self-confidence because I believe that I am worthy and deserve all the good things in life.
I did the brick wall activity in session 2 for myself - I wrote all the positive things about myself; things I know I can do. All I can say is that a lot has changed in me, even my attitude towards life and everyone around me. Doing that activity has led me to believe in myself and to be proud of myself and know that I am enough and “Yes! I can!”
Having to teach these kids this programmes is amazing. It makes me feel good about myself because I get to make a difference in their lives by teaching the topics of self-love, abuse and self-defence. I feel empowered as a young woman. I wish I had someone in my childhood to teach me this - it would've made a huge impact on my life growing up.
It helped me to become a better parent to my girls. I communicate better with my kids, rather than always shouting and angry, I'm more calm now. And when I have a problem with someone I know how to approach that person and address the issue and how it makes me feel rather than keeping quiet and doing nothing. It's not good to bottle things up inside – I need to communicate.
I really appreciate being given the opportunity to work with you and each and every day I'm learning and growing.”
